Muar, also known as Bandar Maharani (or the Empress’ Town) by Sultan Abu Bakar in year 1884, is located about 150km southeast of Malaysia’s capital, namely Kuala Lumpur, it is 45km south of Malacca Town, and is approximately 179km northwest of Singapore.

Many historical resources have actually showed that Muar has existed earlier than Malacca and many remarkable historical personages such as Parameswara and Sultan Iskandar Syah have made their presence here too! Muar is one state that is rich with its own culture, with its well-known lion dance among the Chinese community

Ghazal, which is the Johor’s traditional musical heritage, Kuda Kepang which is traditionally originated from Indonesia, nevertheless, there is one renowned Indian temple named as Nagamalai Koil Alaiyam! Besides that, Muar is also well-recognized as the furniture capital in Malaysia. We have several supermarkets namely Astaka, One-Stop, The Store, K-Mart, Giant and Econsave. 

To many surprise, the Hainanese Chicken Rice Ball is authentically originated among the Muar Hainanese, meanwhile, Muar is famous with its ‘otak-otak’, fried oyster omelette, 

fried vermicelli noodle, and its prawn noodle which is prepared differently from the rest of the country. Another attraction not-to-be-missed is the Taman Tanjung Emas that is located at the estuary of Muar river which is also known as the town’s park.
